Tips

Here are some information on how to provide better care for your pet!!

General Care

Dogs
  1. Dogs need plenty of daily exercise – three times a day is recommended.
  2. Dogs should be checked frequently for ticks, fleas and other parasites.
  3. Dogs should be bathed with dog shampoo and not human shampoo (baby shampoo ok for washing the head) .
  4. Dog ears should be cleaned weekly.
  5. Dog teeth should be brushed at least twice a week – dog biscuits between brushing will help keep teeth clean and breath fresh.
  6. Dry dog food is recommended, supplemented with a high quality vitamin.
  7. Dogs should take a heartworm pill once a month.
  8. Dogs should visit their veterinarian once a year for an exam and regular vaccines.
 Cats
  1. Cats, as independent as they may seem, do require care and attention. Be sure to pay attention to these important details.
  2. Cats should visit the veterinarian annually and kept up-to-date on the necessary shots and vaccinations.
  3. Cats should be given a heartworm pill once a year.
  4. Dry Cat food is recommended for the bulk of the cat’s diet and should be supplemented with a good cat vitamin.
  5. Cats should be bathed regularly with a cat shampoo – use baby shampoo if you need to wash the cat’s head. In addition to bathing, cats should be brushed one or two times per week.
  6. Cats should have their teeth brushed at least twice a week.
  7. Use only low calorie treats – dry treats will also help clean the cat’s teeth.
  8. Cats should be checked regularly for fleas and ticks during the Spring, Summer and Fall months.
Birds
  1. Birds, like all pets, require care, attention and companionship. When bringing a bird home make sure you are prepared for a little noise, an occasional mess, and a long term relationship.
  2. Birds don’t just sing beautiful songs, they also screech and holler at what can seem like random intervals.
  3. Expect to clean up after your birds as they toss thing from their cage and scatter food and seeds around their cage.
  4. Regular cleaning of the cage should also be expected.
  5. Some types of birds can become extremely attached to their owners and lose all zest for life if abandoned or sold.
Hamsters
  1. Get the right equipment – cage, bedding, nesting materials, toys, water bottle, food.
  2. Provide a good variety of foods – in addition to hamster mix and hamster treats, provide fresh fruit and vegetables.
  3. Clean their cages weekly.
  4. Get regular checkups with the veterinarian.
  5. Handle your hamster with care – wash your hands before and after handling your hamster.
Rabbits
  1. Rabbits are social creatures and require love and regular attention and play.
  2. Rabbits frighten easily and should be provided a safe place to live with a hiding place in their living space.
  3. Rabbits need plenty of food (pellets), fresh water, and regular exercise.
  4. Rabbits love to chew and therefore should be watched closely if allowed to roam freely in the home.

  2. A flyball team is usually four dogs, sometimes with up to two reserve dogs.
  3. Teams of similar ability and speed are paired to race against each other at the same time.
